Produced by Charlotte Robinson

In this exclusive audio interview Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ talks with Dan Baer, former US Ambassador for the Obama administration and Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate about his campaign to defeat Republican Senator Cory Gardner in Colorado. Dan has earned the endorsements of LGBTQ Victory Fund and Foreign Policy for America Action Network and if elected he will become the first openly gay man to serve in the US Senate. In a record-breaking initial second quarter his U.S. Senate FEC report shows $1,355,256 in total receipts with $1,111,530 in total contributions and $1,008,342 cash on hand which has been powered by a strong grassroots performance with 87% of donations in amounts of $100 or less and an average online contribution of $25. This is the largest initial report for an LGBTQ candidate running for the U.S. Senate or U.S. House in history. Baer stated, “I’m proud that thousands and thousands of people are rising to meet this moment with us because they believe Colorado and our country can do better than the failed leadership of Cory Gardner, Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump." As you know it’s crucial not only to defeat Trump in the upcoming 2020 election but we must also flip the Senate and win back a democratic majority. We talked to Dan about his groundbreaking campaign and his spin on our LGBTQ issues.

Dan Baer graduated from Harvard University with a degree in social studies and African American studies and was then a Marshall Scholar at Oxford University where he earned masters and doctoral degrees in international relations. Baer served in the Obama administration's State Department, first as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor under Secretary Clinton and Secretary Kerry from 2009 to 2013 and then as the youngest United States Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe from 2013 to 2017. In 2018 Governor John Hickenlooper appointed Baer as the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Dan lives in Denver with his husband Brian Walsh a climate economist.

I am so impressed with Dan Baer and agree with him totally that we have to not only get rid of Trump but we MUST gain control of the Senate. I like his positivism and his straightforward, down to earth manner. If I were in Colorado, I'd vote for him.
